Samantha Byrne - U15 Girls BOP Hockey Team

Nationals for U15 Girls will be held in Invercargill 24th to 29th July

Samantha was born into a family of Hockey players from her Parents to her siblings.  She started playing when she was 4 years old.  Her mum Kris was her team coach when she was younger and her dad Richard taught them skills.  Her mum is currently the Coach for Edgecumbe College Boys Hockey team and her Dad Richard is Coach for Edgecumbe College Girls Hockey team.

When she was nine when she made the Bay of Plenty team and travelled to Rotorua for trainings every Sunday.  She has been a Bay of Plenty representative ever since.  This year she has successfully made the Bay of Plenty Secondary Schools Girls U15 team and will travel to Invercargill to play from the 24th to 29th July, playing teams from all over New Zealand.

Samantha has travelled extensively in New Zealand and seen a lot of countryside through playing hockey.  After each tournament Coaches gave out certificates and badges to players then team photos were taken.  Samantha has always taken her own photos of the fun things and places in the towns she has visited.  Last year she played in Timaru.

Samantha is very passionate about hockey and she gets lots of enjoyment from playing and utilising the skills she has been taught throughout her years of playing.  She plays a forward position and loves the speed of covering a lot of turf and getting lots of goals too.

This year she has played for Egecumbe College, Edgecumbe Rovers and the Bay of Plenty U15 team.  In the next few weeks she will plaly in Tauranga, Hamilton and travel to Auckland for games for the Bay of Plenty U15.

Samantha has all the makings of a New Zealand Secondary School Representative and becoming a future New Zealand Hockey Black Stick.
